The Cold Weather Blues

Wearing: Faux Fur Coat, Shirt Dress (Similar), Over-The-Knee Boots, Hoops, Crossbody Bag

In case you haven’t noticed, it is finally getting chilly out there (Cue the Winter haters). As somebody who was born in -50ºC weather, I actually look forward to the colder months and try my best to hibernate, aka bury myself in work, during the summer months. My coat and boot collections can definitely corroborate this claim, while my dresses, shorts, and rompers stay silent and outnumbered. Similarly, I think of this time as a refreshing challenge to express one’s own style whilst hiding underneath multiple layers and accepting that your parents were, and still are, always right (“Any jacket that doesn’t cover your butt is a waste of money,” they said, and to this day, I can vividly remember every single time that my pride and foolishness caused either a cold or a fever. I urge you to accept their wisdom and move on already).

In the midst of SS18 fashion week and its show-stopping street style, I began thinking about expanding my coat collection. I wanted to combine the glamour of the jaw-dropping faux fur with practicality, great quality, and affordability. Beauties, I’ve hit the jackpot with this piece in Sapphire. First, the A-line fit allows for layering and comfort in wear, not to mention that the length, covering your behind, will keep you warm (It also happens to be parent-approved).

Second, the vegan fur is of great quality, in that it is smooth, plush, and incredibly soft. I cannot stress the difficulty in finding such qualities in a faux fur, but when you do, it definitely isn’t a piece that you should leave behind.

Lastly, the colour is moody, yet striking. Being the person that genuinely believes that a great coat can be the outfit, I focused on accentuating the sapphire tone by wearing a white shirt dress and black over-the-knee boots. I found both pieces to provide a slimming effect, thus balancing out the plush and semi-oversized coat.

In addition, I opted for a size up, to allow room for potentially thicker layers and a cozier fit. Similarly, while I initially purchased the coat in Jade, I found the Sapphire option to be more suitable for my fair skin tone and blonde highlights. Lastly, check out some other faux fur coat options in a shorter red, a longer turquoise, and a medium-length pink.

Hope this bold, yet collected look inspires and pushes your style to stand out during the upcoming cold and gloomy months.

Happy Friday!

Cheers,

A
